Antananarivo's Climate
Antananarivo is the capital of Madagascar, set on the island's central highlands at about 1,280 metres, deep inland and in the southern hemisphere at 18.9°S. Thanks to its altitude, it has a mild subtropical highland climate, far cooler than the tropical coastal cities. Because it lies south of the equator, the seasons are reversed: the warm, humid rainy season falls in November–April with showers, thunderstorms and the occasional remnants of a tropical cyclone, while the cool dry season runs May–October with clear skies and night temperatures that can drop to 8–12°C. Daytime highs stay around 20–28°C year-round.
