Asunción's Climate
Asunción is Paraguay's capital, set deep in the South American interior on the banks of the Paraguay River, with a humid subtropical climate in the Southern Hemisphere, so its seasons run opposite to the north. Summers (December–February) are very hot and muggy, usually 32–38°C and occasionally topping 40°C, with afternoon thunderstorms, while winters (June–August) are mild, around 18–24°C by day but capable of dropping below 5°C when cold southerly fronts sweep in. Rain falls fairly steadily all year, peaking in late spring and early summer, and humidity stays high.
