Kampala's Climate

Kampala, the capital of Uganda, lies almost on the equator on a highland plateau at about 1,200 m and hugs the northern shore of Lake Victoria. Thanks to its altitude and the vast lake, the climate is tropical but tempered, warm and remarkably steady all year rather than fiercely hot: daytime highs are usually 26–28°C and nights are mild around 17–18°C. Instead of hot and cold seasons, the year splits into two long rainy periods (March–May and September–November) with frequent afternoon showers and thunderstorms, separated by two relatively drier spells (December–February and June–August).
