Los Angeles has a Mediterranean climate with abundant sunshine year-round, dry warm summers and mild, slightly wetter winters. Most of its modest rainfall comes between December and March, while summers are nearly rainless, with comfortable coastal highs around 24–29°C but much hotter conditions in the inland valleys. The city often sees morning marine fog ('June Gloom'), hot dry Santa Ana winds that raise wildfire risk in autumn, and high UV levels all year.
Rain mainly falls from December to March; the rest of the year is largely dry, with summers seeing almost no rainfall at all.
The coast stays mild year-round, but inland valleys can get very hot in summer, exceeding 35°C, especially during Santa Ana wind events.
They are hot, dry winds that blow in from the desert, usually in autumn and early winter, sharply increasing wildfire risk around the city.
It is enjoyable year-round thanks to the mild climate, but spring and early fall are best, with clear, warm skies and little marine fog.
