N'Djamena's Climate

N'Djamena is the capital of Chad, in the country's south-west where the Chari and Logone rivers meet, near the Cameroon border and at about 12°N in the Sahel. It has a hot semi-arid climate that stays sweltering most of the year. The long dry season (October–May) is clear, very hot and dusty, peaking at 40–43°C in March–May, and is interrupted by the dry, dust-laden harmattan wind blowing off the Sahara. A short rainy season (June–September), driven by the West African monsoon, concentrates almost all of the year's scant rainfall in strong thunderstorms.
