Pyongyang's Climate
Pyongyang sits on the Taedong River in the western Korean Peninsula, not far from the Yellow Sea coast, with a monsoon-influenced humid continental climate and sharply contrasting seasons. Summers (June–August) are hot, humid and wet, usually 28–31°C, with most of the year's rain falling in the monsoon period alongside thunderstorms and the occasional typhoon influence. Winters (December–February) are very cold and dry as northerly winds sweep in from Siberia, with many days below −8°C, frost and snowfall. Spring and autumn are short, dry and pleasant, autumn bringing crisp, clear skies.
