Nakuru sits in the Great Rift Valley on Kenya's central highlands at around 1,850 metres, right near the equator, so despite its tropical latitude it enjoys a cool subtropical highland climate that stays mild and comfortable all year. Temperatures are remarkably steady, usually 22–27°C by day and a fresh 9–12°C at night, rarely turning hot. Rather than four seasons, Nakuru has two rainy periods: the long rains from March to May and the short rains around October to December, separated by dry sunny spells, with January–February and June–September the driest.
