Quito's Climate
Quito, the capital of Ecuador, sits high in the Andes at around 2,850 m and almost exactly on the equator. Its great elevation gives it a cool, remarkably steady equatorial highland climate: daytime highs usually run 18–22°C, but nights can drop to 7–10°C, so the swing between day and night is larger than between seasons. The year splits into a wet season (roughly October to May) with afternoon showers and a cooler, sunnier dry season (June to September). Because the city lies on the equator at altitude, the UV index is often extreme.
