Adelaide's Climate
Adelaide is the capital of South Australia, set on Gulf St Vincent on Australia's southern coast in the Southern Hemisphere, with a Mediterranean climate of hot dry summers and cool wet winters. Because it lies south of the equator its seasons are reversed: summers (December–February) are dry and sunny, usually 27–32°C by day with fierce heatwaves above 40°C when hot inland winds blow through, while winters (June–August) are cool and damp, 12–16°C with steady rain and wind. Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant, and most rainfall arrives in the winter months.
