Baotou's Climate
Baotou lies in Inner Mongolia, northern China, on a plain beside the Yellow River near the desert fringe at around 1,000 m elevation, giving it a cold semi-arid climate with huge seasonal swings. Winters (November–March) are bitterly cold and dry, often dropping below -10°C with little snow, while summers (June–August) are warm and sunny, reaching 28–33°C by day but cooling pleasantly at night. Spring is dry and windy, frequently bringing dust storms blown in from the Gobi, and autumn is short, crisp and clear. Annual rainfall is low and concentrated in summer.
