Dakar's Climate
Dakar, the capital of Senegal, sits on the Cap-Vert peninsula jutting into the Atlantic at the westernmost point of Africa, with a hot semi-arid climate strongly moderated by the ocean. Thanks to cooling sea breezes and a cool offshore current, temperatures stay milder than inland, generally 20–31°C year-round. The long dry season runs from November to June, staying dry with little rain and occasional hot, dusty harmattan winds from the desert, while a short but humid rainy season falls from July to October, bringing monsoon-driven showers and thunderstorms. Humidity rises sharply during the wet months.
