Datong's Climate
Datong sits on the northern plateau of Shanxi Province in northeastern China at around 1,000m elevation and has a semi-arid continental climate with a wide temperature range and four distinct seasons. Summers (June–August) are warm and dry, with daytime highs usually 22–30°C but cool nights, and this is when most rain falls. Winters (November–March) are very cold and dry, often -10 to -18°C, with strong northerly winds and snow. Spring is dry, windy and occasionally hit by dust storms blowing off the deserts to the north, while autumn is short, cool, dry and clear.
