Hohhot's Climate
Hohhot is the capital of Inner Mongolia in northern China, a deeply inland city on a plateau near the edge of the Mongolian steppe at around 1,000 m elevation. It has a semi-arid continental climate with sharply contrasting seasons and large day-to-night temperature swings. Summers (June–August) are warm and short, with daytime highs usually 25–30°C but cool nights, and most of the year's rain falls in this period as thunderstorms. Winters (November–March) are long, dry and bitterly cold, routinely below freezing and dropping to -15 to -20°C, with strong winds and occasional dust storms in spring.
