Kunming's Climate
Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province in south-western China, sits on a plateau around 1,900 m above sea level and has a mild subtropical highland climate (Köppen Cwb), earning its nickname the 'Spring City.' Thanks to the altitude, temperatures stay temperate all year and rarely turn very hot or very cold: summers (June–August) are cool with daytime highs of 24–28°C but form the wet season, while winters (December–February) are dry and sunny with daytime highs of 15–18°C, though nights can be chilly. Rain concentrates from June to September with the summer monsoon, while November to April stays dry and bright.
