Sapporo's Climate
Sapporo is the largest city on Hokkaido in northern Japan, set on the Ishikari plain with a humid continental climate and four very distinct seasons. Winters (December–March) are cold and heavily snowy, usually below 0°C, and the city sees some of the heaviest snowfall of any large metropolis on Earth. Summers (June–August) are mild and pleasant, with daytime highs typically 22–26°C and far lower humidity than cities in southern Japan. Spring and autumn are short but lovely, with late cherry blossoms in spring and vivid maple foliage in autumn. Sapporo largely escapes the muggy tsuyu rainy season felt elsewhere.
