Sendai's Climate
Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region, set on the Pacific coast of northeastern Honshu, Japan, with a humid subtropical climate and four distinct seasons. Summers (June–August) are humid but milder than Tokyo, usually 25–29°C, marked by the tsuyu rainy season in June–July and typhoons in late summer and early autumn. Winters (December–February) are cold, with daytime highs of 3–7°C; the mountains to the west block the winter monsoon, so central Sendai gets far less snow than the Sea of Japan coast. Cherry-blossom spring and the dry, cool autumn are the loveliest times of year. Pacific sea breezes keep the climate moderate.
