Shiyan's Climate
Shiyan lies in the mountains of northwestern Hubei province in central China, between the Qinling and Daba ranges, deep inland and at notable elevation, so its winters run colder than the nearby plains. It has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summers (June–August) are hot, humid and rainy, usually 30–35°C, delivering most of the year's rainfall through convective thunderstorms. Winters (December–February) are cold and dry, with daytime highs of 5–10°C, nights that can drop below 0°C and occasional snow in the hills. Spring and autumn (September–October) are cool, dry and the most pleasant times of year.
