Taichung's Climate

Taichung is a major city on the west-central plains of Taiwan, between the Taiwan Strait and the island's central mountains. It has a humid subtropical climate with a long, hot, humid summer and a short, mild winter. Summers (May–September) are muggy with high humidity and frequent monsoon rain and thunderstorms, typically 31–34°C by day, and this is also the season when typhoons can sweep in off the Pacific. Winters (December–February) are milder and drier, around 16–22°C by day and rarely truly cold. Sheltered from the northeast monsoon, Taichung stays drier and sunnier than the north of the island in winter.
