Taiyuan's Climate
Taiyuan is the capital of Shanxi province in northern China, set at about 800 m on the Loess Plateau beside the Fen River, with a semi-arid continental climate touched by the monsoon. Summers (June–August) are warm and relatively comfortable thanks to the elevation, usually 25–32°C, with concentrated showers and thunderstorms. Winters (December–February) are long, cold and dry, typically -8–4°C, with little snow. Spring is dry with strong winds and occasional dust storms blowing from the north, while autumn (September–October) is dry, cool and the clearest time of year.
