Ürümqi's Climate
Ürümqi, capital of the Xinjiang region in northwestern China, lies deep in the Central Asian interior near the Tianshan Mountains and is often cited as one of the world's most landlocked large cities. It has an arid continental climate with enormous swings between seasons. Summers (June–August) are hot and dry, with daytime highs typically 28–34°C in crisp, low-humidity air, while winters (November–March) are long and very cold, frequently dropping to -10 to -20°C with heavy, persistent snow. Annual rainfall is low, leaning slightly toward spring. Spring and autumn are short and abrupt.
