Zhongwei's Climate
Zhongwei lies along the Yellow River in Ningxia, northwestern China, on the edge of the Tengger Desert at about 1,200 m elevation, with a cold, dry continental climate and wide temperature swings. Summers (June–August) are hot and dry, usually 28–34°C by day but cool at night thanks to the altitude, while winters (December–February) are bitterly cold, often dropping to −8 to −15°C with snowfall. Spring and autumn are short transitions, and spring frequently brings strong winds and dust storms carrying sand off the desert. Rainfall is very low, concentrated in July–September.
