Amritsar's Climate
Amritsar lies on the Punjab plains of northwestern India, deep inland near the Pakistan border, and has a semi-arid subtropical climate with a wide swing between seasons. Summers (April–June) are extremely hot and dry, usually 38–44°C and sometimes reaching 46°C, before the southwest monsoon (July–September) brings showers and thunderstorms that ease the heat but raise humidity. Winters (December–February) are cool, with nights dropping to 4–8°C and thick early-morning fog common. Air quality often deteriorates in late autumn and winter because of crop-residue burning.
