Chennai's Climate
Chennai has a hot, humid coastal tropical climate, sweltering for most of the year with high humidity from its position on the Bay of Bengal. Unlike much of India, Chennai gets most of its rain from the northeast monsoon in October–December, sometimes accompanied by depressions and tropical cyclones that bring heavy rain and flooding. April to June is the hottest period, with temperatures topping 38–40°C amid oppressive humidity, while the more comfortable weather arrives in January–February.
