Madurai's Climate
Madurai is an inland city on the Vaigai River in Tamil Nadu, southern India, close to the equator, so it stays hot almost all year under a tropical, largely hot-and-dry climate. Temperatures peak in summer (March–June), usually 35–40°C and sometimes above 42°C with dry, oppressive air, followed by the northeast monsoon (October–December) that delivers most of the region's rain with thunderstorms and occasional heavy downpours. The remaining months are relatively dry, and even in the coolest season (December–January) days still reach about 28–31°C.
