Mwanza's Climate
Mwanza sits on the southern shore of Lake Victoria in northwestern Tanzania at about 1,140 m elevation, giving it a tropical savanna climate tempered by the vast lake and altitude. Close to the equator in the southern hemisphere, temperatures stay warm and remarkably steady all year, with daytime highs of 26–30°C and pleasantly cool nights of 15–18°C. There are two wet seasons: the long rains from March to May and short rains in November–December, both bringing afternoon thunderstorms and towering cumulus, while the driest, coolest stretch falls from June to August. Lake Victoria keeps humidity high and lake breezes fresh throughout the year.
