Because it is south of the equator, the warm season falls in January–March, when days reach 26–31°C, feel more humid and occasionally see showers, especially in El Niño years. Mid-year (June–September) is cooler at 17–23°C, often overcast with low cloud and coastal fog known as garúa. Rainfall is rare all year, so skies stay largely dry.
