Piura's Climate
Piura lies in northwestern Peru, near the Pacific coast and not far from the equator, on an arid coastal plain that gives it a tropical desert climate, hot and dry for almost the entire year. Because it is in the Southern Hemisphere, the hottest stretch falls in December–March, when daytime temperatures usually reach 32–36°C and can feel oppressive, while the remaining months are a touch cooler, around 26–30°C. Rain is very scarce, but in El Nino years a band of unusually warm ocean water can trigger heavy downpours and flooding. Skies are sunny most of the time.
