Maiduguri's Climate
Maiduguri lies in northeastern Nigeria, within the Sahel on the southern fringe of the Sahara, deep inland near Lake Chad, with a hot semi-arid climate. Most of the year is a long dry season from October to May, with clear skies, very dry air and intense heat; from December to February the dry, dusty harmattan wind blows off the desert, cutting visibility and cooling the nights. A short rainy season runs June to September with heavy showers and thunderstorms. The hottest spell is April–May just before the rains, when daytime highs typically reach 38–42°C.
