Onitsha's Climate
Onitsha sits on the east bank of the Niger River in southeastern Nigeria, inland in tropical West Africa, and has a hot, humid tropical monsoon climate year-round. The long wet season (March–October) is damp, with frequent showers and thunderstorms peaking in June–September when rainfall is very heavy; temperatures stay fairly steady at 26–33°C. The dry season (November–February) is hotter and less rainy, shaped by the dry, dusty harmattan wind that blows in from the Sahara, hazing the sky and lowering humidity. Heat and high humidity are defining traits.
