Monterrey's Climate
Monterrey sits in northeastern Mexico, cradled in a valley ringed by the Sierra Madre Oriental, and has a hot semi-arid climate with sweltering summers and mild winters. Summers (May–September) are very hot, with daytime highs typically 33–38°C and sometimes above 40°C, made oppressive by high humidity; this is also the rainy season, bringing afternoon thunderstorms and the influence of tropical storms from the Gulf of Mexico. Winters (December–February) are mild and dry, occasionally interrupted by cold northerly surges known locally as nortes that send temperatures tumbling.
