Shiraz's Climate

Shiraz sits in southwest Iran, on the Zagros mountain plateau at around 1,500 m, giving it a semi-arid Mediterranean climate of hot dry summers and cool wet winters. Summers (June–September) are hot, intensely sunny and very dry, with daytime highs usually 35–40°C but nights eased by the altitude, while winters (December–February) turn cool and chilly, dipping near freezing at night with occasional light snow on the surrounding peaks. Almost all of the modest rainfall arrives between late autumn and early spring, leaving summer virtually rain-free. Spring is mild, flowery and the loveliest season.
