Al Başrah al Qadīmah's Climate
Al Başrah al Qadīmah is the old quarter of Basra in the far south of Iraq, set near the Shatt al-Arab waterway and not far from the Persian Gulf, on a low plain near sea level, giving it a hot desert climate. Summers (May–September) are extremely hot and long, with daytime highs typically 43–48°C, and Gulf moisture adds a muggy, oppressive edge, while winters (December–February) are short and mild, with pleasant daytime highs of 16–20°C, cool nights and the occasional shower. Annual rainfall is very low and falls almost entirely in winter.
