Chelyabinsk's Climate
Chelyabinsk lies on the eastern flank of the Ural Mountains in Russia's southern interior and has a humid continental climate marked by severe winters and a huge annual temperature range. Winter (November–March) is long and bitter, typically -12 to -20°C with cold snaps below -30°C and deep snow cover lasting for months. Summer (June–August) is warm but short, with daytime highs of 20–27°C and occasional spikes above 30°C accompanied by thunderstorms. Spring and autumn are brief, changeable and windy transitions. As an industrial city, its air quality can suffer in winter.
