Nizhniy Novgorod's Climate
Nizhniy Novgorod stands in European Russia at the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers, with a humid continental climate and four sharply contrasting seasons. Winters (November–March) are long, freezing and snowy, typically -8 to -15°C and often colder still; summers (June–August) are warm but short, around 20–26°C, with occasional afternoon thunderstorms. Spring (April–May) is a muddy thaw, while autumn (September–October) turns cool, damp and cloudy before sliding quickly into cold. Precipitation is fairly even through the year, falling mostly as snow in winter.
