Samara's Climate
Samara stands on the eastern bank of the Volga River in the steppe zone of southeastern European Russia, far from any sea, giving it a humid continental climate with a wide swing in temperature between seasons. Winters (November–March) are long, very cold and snowy, typically -10 to -15°C with cold snaps below -25°C that freeze the river, while summers (June–August) are warm and fairly dry, peaking at 24–28°C and sometimes above 30°C. Spring arrives late with slushy snowmelt, and autumn is short, cool and quick to turn cold. Precipitation is moderate and fairly even, though heaviest in summer.
