Novosibirsk's Climate
Novosibirsk lies deep in continental Siberia on the banks of the Ob River and has a humid continental climate with an enormous swing between seasons. Winters (November–March) are long and severe, typically -15 to -25°C with cold snaps reaching -35°C and a thick snow cover that lasts for months. Summers (June–August) are short but genuinely warm, usually 20–28°C and occasionally above 30°C, punctuated by afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Spring and autumn are brief transitions in which the thaw and freeze arrive quickly. Rainfall concentrates in summer, while winter delivers dry, powdery snow.
