Pekanbaru's Climate
Pekanbaru lies on the Siak River in central Sumatra, Indonesia, almost exactly on the equator, giving it a hot and humid tropical rainforest climate all year round. Daytime highs hover near 31–34°C and nights sit around 22–24°C with little seasonal change, while very high humidity keeps showers and thunderstorms frequent throughout the year, peaking during the monsoon transitions of March–April and October–December. The drier stretch falls between June and August, which is also when land and peat fires in surrounding provinces can send thick haze over the city and sharply degrade air quality.
